IRC, Italians and Impersonations
Oh, the alliteration! I submit to you, dear reader, this. It is a pastebin of the transcript from #oracle earlier today. For some reason, user “otay” suddenly decided to get vile with me (I’m “rizzo”). He even went so far as to fabricate quotes from me. My favorite is:
[10:59] <otay> <rizzo> excuse me public in channel or i nuke you with my bomber net. NOW.
One giveaway, however, is that I’m a native English speaker. So, when I insult someone, I don’t normally do it in the same broken English that our Italian friend otay uses. If you read the full log, you’ll see how my #wilug compatriot superdug convinced him to do a “smegcheck” and reboot his machine. He hasn’t been seen since!
netiquette
This is an example of how not to get help in #oracle. spinal4ever just doesn’t get it, and I can only excuse so much on the broken English. Many F-bombs were dropped. I’m ashamed I offered what tidbits that I did.
Monitor RMAN I/O
Yesterday in #oracle, hali pointed out the existance of the v$rman_backup_job_details view, and has since written a nice example post about using it to monitor the I/O done by every RMAN job you’ve done.
Keep Oracle Docs Handy
As I just shared in #oracle, it really helps to have a handy bookmark to the Oracle documentation library for your release. Oracle really does a good job with its documentation and making it easily available and searchable.
